About Phil

I’m a physician-scientist by training, but I’m a storyteller by birth. I was raised in New York, in a small town haunted by the ghosts of early twentieth-century writers. I spent my summers at the Jersey Shore, in a smaller town haunted by the ghosts of some lobsters I failed to resuscitate after exposure to fresh water. In my defense, I wasn’t a doctor yet.

After college, I worked and studied around the world. I still do. My characters therefore reflect both the sorts of people I grew up with and the weirdos I’ve met in my travels. All are fictional, but they feel real to me. After fifty years, maybe they are.

When I’m not tending to injured athletes or teaching at the medical school, you’ll find me at the beach with my family and a totally unreasonable collection of fishing gear.
